Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa was born in Albi, in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France, as the firstborn child of Alphonse Charles Comte de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa (1838–1913) and his wife Adèle Zoë Tapié de Celeyran (1841–1930).

In 1881 Henri assisted his uncle Amédée Tapié de Celeyran with the inundation of his vineyards near Narbonne. This inundation was at that time the only remedy (by drowning) against the phylloxera an insect that destroys the vines………..
